Florida's Public Land Survey System is governed entirely by the Tallahassee Meridian, established in 1824 with its initial point near the territorial capital of Tallahassee. The Tallahassee Meridian covers all of Florida's 67 counties, making the state one of the simplest to navigate from a meridian standpoint. Township numbers run both north and south of the Tallahassee baseline, and range numbers run east and west of the meridian line, creating four distinct quadrants across the state.

Florida's survey history was shaped by the unusual character of its terrain. The original GLO surveys, conducted largely between the 1820s and 1850s, encountered conditions unlike those in any other PLSS state. Florida's real estate market — consistently one of the most active in the country — generates enormous demand for accurate PLSS-to-GPS conversion. From Gulf Coast resort developments and Atlantic beachfront properties to citrus grove transactions in Polk County and agricultural land deals in the sugarcane belt of Palm Beach County, almost every Florida real estate transaction traces back to a Tallahassee Meridian PLSS description somewhere in the title chain.
